London to Paris Bike Ride Day 4

We finished the ride today in Paris near the Eiffel Tower. Al of the cyclist from the 4 different routes finished at the same location a total of 600 riders. This ride is the largest London to Paris Charity Bike ride in the world and it was absolutely fantastic to take part.

The ride today was only 52 miles with another 10 miles in Paris including the ride to the hotel. The weather was good to us with clear skies sun and not too hot. The scenery was really quite spectacular as we rode through the French countryside.

The Team did fantastically well and it is thanks to Pamela Gellatly for getting us all involved in the first place and driving us to train for the event. There is no doubt about it the training did pay off and we finished with no injuries or a hate of the bike.

Thanks should also go to Tim Heard who has been relentless in his chasing the sponsorship and it was Tim who arranged and designed the cycle shirts bearing the names of our sponsors and securing the sponsorship.

Debbie Davies who wouldn't have considered riding a bike 12 months ago has gone from nothing to sometimes setting the pace especially when there was a refreshment stop ahead. Not forgetting David Rogers some say we only encouraged David to come with us so we could say we had our own Physio but not true David cycled especially well again having not done much cycling at all until he bought his bike under the cycle to work scheme through working for Healthcare RM.

Let us not forget Paul Howfield one of our colleagues who we met on Walking for health. Paul returned to cycling about 18 months ago and over the 4 days proved to be a great friend to all of us. Paul, Tim and David rode together and at a fantastic pace and all we can say is if Lance Armstrong is building another Team then these guys looked the business.

Finally thanks to our sponsors, Healthcare RM, Carter Construction, Commercial IT Services and MapyX who supply Quo Digital mapping.

Pictures will be posted of the ride sometime next week.

Tour de Frog and Londres au Paris Day 3

Well today was the big one 117 miles of undulating (hilly) countryside in Normandy finishing up in the Novatel at Chartres for the night. It was another demanding day for everyone. All of the Tour de Frog Team scored a first today with it being the longest single ride any of us had done.

To place the climbs into perspective we have climbed more than 4300 metres in the last three days. That is the same as riding up Ben Nevis each day and Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK. Or another landmark being that it is higher than the highest point on Mont Blanc that you can get without guides and climbing equipment.

The Healthcare RM cycle shirts have also mad a great impact on each day and brought our sponsors into the limelight as well.

In case anyone thought this was breeze then just a reminder we had a call at 5.13 this morning for breakfast a briefing then on the road for 7am.

Tomorrow is an easier day as it is only around 55 miles ending up in Paris.

Tour de Frog and Londres au Paris

Well we all arrived at Chessington and an early night for an early start the following day. We cycled from Chessington to Portsmouth a mere 80 miles of som very challenging hills. Every time we went down we knew there was some more hills to go up.

Anyway marginally tired we were held at the Mountbatten Centre until around 7pm when we then cycled the final mile to the terminal. We booked in the ferry set sail we had something to eat and then it was early to bed for a 6am call the following morning.

So for today when we arrived in St Malo an easy day only anoth 80 miles or so to Mayenne and a night at the Campanile. The hills were not so agressive just longer and again lots of them. The final 12 miles or so found some of us sheltering from rain, thunder and lightening before setting off on very wet roads.

However a gret day again with all of the Team excelling themselves. Tommoroow it is 100 miles plus so another early start.

The Tour de Frog Team has Arrived at Checkin

Well we have all arrived and checked our bikes in. The weather down to Chessington was not very encouraging but it will get better. On the trip from Tewkesbury we went through rain, dry spells, a sight of some blue sky and more rain.

We are not discouraged though as excitement mounts wake up is at 6am tomorrow morning a cyclist breakfast a briefing then off to Portsmouth.

So just to remind you of the team, Tim Heard, Debbie Davies, Pamela Gellatly, Paul Howfield, David Rogers and last but not least Alan Gellatly.

One of our sponsors is Quo Digital mapping and we will be carrying a GPS with us to track our journey and the guys at Quo including Dusan have agreed to convert the data into a map so we can see where we went and if we stuck to the route.

Bon Voyage and more will follow.

London to Paris Bike Ride

Today is the day we all travel to Chessington to start the London to Paris Action Medical Research Charity bike ride. The ride starts from Chessington tomorrow morning bright and early and we cycle the 80 miles or so to Portsmouth. We should arrive in Porstmouth in time to have a leisurely meal before we board the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo.

The excitement is mounting as this will be the longest daily rides for most of the Tour de Frog Team. It will also be the first time any of us have ridden these distances 4 days in a row.

We may have the chance to update this Blog as we go but if not a full update will be given when we return next week.
